In this video, I'm going to show you how to fix a common issue that pops up for people who use page builders like Kadence Blocks. It's the empty headings issue.

Let me first go over to the accessibility section of Siteimprove. Under issues we have empty headings. Here, it appears on this page, so I'm going to go ahead and click or select the page title and that will open up the page report and you can see here that there's an empty heading right here and it's an H5.

If I look at the HTML view you can see that it's an H5, and there is no content in there. So let's go ahead and go to the page where this is occurring. I have set up CMS deep links in Siteimprove, so I can just select this CMS button and that will open the page that I need in WordPress.

We are now looking at the page with the empty heading in WordPress. Let me scroll down and you'll see that in this block over here, there's a placeholder for subtitle. If I go over to the right hand panel and select block and if we look at the style section, you can see there are all these settings and one of them is subtitle settings.

If I expand this one, you'll see that it's the "use subtitle" toggle is switched on. That's what this is. We actually don't want a subtitle here, so I'm going to go ahead and disable that toggle. And you'll see here that all those options disappeared because now it is not active. And then I can go ahead and save this – save my changes.

And if I preview this, I can see that now.... Let me inspect this area here. There's an H2 which is that text, and then previously there was an H5 here that had no content. Now that H5 is gone, and what you can do at this point is go back to that accessibility page report and if you select this icon with the arrows going in a circle, that will run the page check again in Siteimprove.

It takes a little bit of time, but once it's done it should clear that empty headings issue from the issues list. You can also run that page check here from the issues page right next to the page title. Let me refresh this page and let's see if that page check has been completed. Scroll down here and you can see that empty headings is now gone.
