In this video, I'll show you how to add the Siteimprove priority script to your WordPress site by editing the footer.php file directly. Before you edit your WordPress site's theme files, back up your site files by going to WPEngine and running a site backup. In a previous video, I showed you how to use the theme customizer to add the priority script. Let's try that on this site. So I would navigate to appearance and customize. Select customize, and that will bring up this sidebar on the left hand side. Notice that there is no option for header and footer scripts in this customizer, so we can't use that method to add the priority script for this site. Let me close this out. We'll go back to the dashboard appearance area, and if you look in appearance, this last item here the theme file editor is the one you want. Select theme file editor. Scroll down your page and right now you can see here that the theme file editor gives us three files that we can work with. One of them is footer.php. Select footer.php. Let me scroll a little bit and you will see footer.php is highlighted here on the right hand sidebar, and this is the content of that file within this area. Scroll until you can find the closing body tag right here. You want to put your Siteimprove priority script just above just or just before the closing body tag, so I'm going to put my cursor right here at the beginning of this line 31, where the closing body tag is, and I'm going to select press enter or return to create some space here, a couple lines. I have the webpage on my site that has the script open on another tab, and I'm going to copy this script. You can also copy the script from the email sent by DAP. And let me go back to my file editor. Here's that closing body tag, and right above it, I will paste the Siteimprove priority script. And then all I have to do is select Update file here, and that will save my changes. You'll see file edited successfully, and that's it. You're all done. I'm going to just go back to my dashboard, and nothing will change visually on your site, because this is just in the footer. It's just a script that's going to run, and what you will notice when you log into Siteimprove is that you will start seeing some uh metrics, some analytics uh in some of the tables once you install this script. If you have any questions or run into any troubles when you're installing this script, please feel free to contact me. Thanks for watching!
